Court acquits four accused in Mecca Masjid blast case
HYDERABAD: The 4th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge on Thursday acquitted four persons accused in a criminal conspiracy and fake passport case that was registered by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) in connection with the Mecca Masjid bomb blast case of 2007.
The acquittal followed seven years of trial. On 26 June, 2007, sleuths of Special Investigation Cell (SIC) that was constituted to probe into the May 18, 2007 blast arrested Shoeb Jagirdar, a kerosene dealer from Jalna, Maharashtra. He was accused of helping an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba activist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem alias Sameer of Aurangabad in securing a passport by fraudulent means from Hyderabad.
The then Inspector Task Force M Ramchandran who was attached to SIC filed a complaint with the Central Crime Station on which a case was registered against Jagirdar, Abdul Nayeem and Mohammed Imran Khan and Syed Imran, an engineering student who was related to Jagirdar. The case was booked under sections 120(B) (Criminal Conspiracy), 125(Waging war against the government), 126 (Committing depredation on territories) and 12(1) (b) of Indian Passport Act, 1967.
The SIC stated in the FIR that Nayeem in his reported confession claimed that when he visited Hyderabad in February 2007 he was received by Jagirdar. He also said that Jagirdar helped him in applying for a passport under a fake name from Hyderabad through a travel agent Nagesh. It was alleged that Jagirdar had also arranged accommodation for Nayeem at Imran Khan's residence at Hasmatpet.
The SIC also claimed that Nayeem during his stay videographed important installations and places in Hyderabad. The contents in the bag Nayeem was carrying were suspicious. The SIC later arrested Imran, an engineering student, on the charges of helping Jagirdar with logistics. Imran's associate Rafiuddin Ahmed was also arrested.
After a prolonged trial the session judge concluded that there was no evidence to convict the accused. He acquitted all of them.
