Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath are working against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MP Badruddin Ajmal has said.

Mr. Ajmal is the chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and represents western Assam’s Dhubri constituency in the Lok Sabha.

“The Prime Minister is calling for embracing Muslims and earning their trust for votes in 2024 but the two Chief Ministers are bulldozing the aspirations of the community,” he told presspersons on Wednesday.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma and Yogi Adityanath are running bulldozer governments, targeting Muslims. I don’t know which group they belong to but it is certain that they are not part of Modi ji’s group and are working against him,” Mr. Ajmal said.

The AIUDF chief said the Assam Chief Minister has been carrying out one drive after the other against Muslims. He said that the eviction of Muslims from government land on short notice and the crackdown against child marriage are examples.

He also said that his party was against the Uniform Civil Code and would continue to oppose the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019.

The NRC, in limbo since the complete draft of citizens was published in August 2019, left out 19.06 lakh people out of 3.3 crore applicants. The CAA, whose rules have not been framed, seeks to fast-track citizenship of non-Muslims from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who took refuge in India until December 31, 2014.

New Delhi: Two men alleged to have been kidnapped and killed by cow vigilantes in Bhiwani last week were tortured for several hours to extract information on the sources of cattle and their trafficking operations, Rajasthan Police sources familiar with the ongoing investigation have told ThePrint.

The severely injured men were then taken to Ferozepur-Jhirka police station in Haryana by the vigilantes, the sources said, but turned away by police officers who feared the duo — Junaid and Nasir — could die in custody.

Haryana Director General of Police P.K. Agarwal did not respond to queries from ThePrint seeking comment.

Bharatpur Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gaurav Srivastava told ThePrint that “eight people have been clearly identified, their presence at the scene of the crime has been corroborated”.

“In total we suspect that there are 12 people involved in the case, their involvement is being verified. We are verifying Monu Manesar’s involvement in the matter,” Srivastava said.

Manesar, also known as Mohit Yadav, has been booked in the matter but denies involvement. A Bajrang Dal leader from the Manesar area of Haryana, Yadav has been a prominent figure in violent cow vigilante groups operating in the region.

According to Rajasthan Police sources, the two groups assaulted the duo with clubs and batons.

Rajasthan Police sources said the cow vigilantes then took the two Muslim men to the Ferozepur-Jhirka police station and sought the registration of an FIR against them on charges of cattle smuggling. A Rajasthan Police officer involved in investigating the Junaid-Nasir case said “the Haryana Police asked the vigilantes to take away the two men after seeing their condition”.

“One of the groups then took the men to Bhiwani and burnt them. It is not yet clear if they were already dead by the time they were burnt.” Only parts of the skeleton were recovered from the car in Bhiwani.

Both residents of Ghatmika village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, Junaid and Nasir left home in a Bolero on the night of 14 February without informing their family members about their plans, said police sources. A case of abduction was then registered at Gopalgarh police station against five men including Manesar on a complaint by Junaid’s kin.

The skeletal remains of the two men were eventually recovered on 16 February.

17/FEB/2023

Ghatmeeka (Rajasthan): When The Wire reached Ghatmeeka village in Rajasthan, on the border with Haryana, on Thursday night, we found heavy police presence and simmering tensions in the neighbourhood. But the eerie silence of the night was interrupted in the morning, when over 2,000 locals from nearby villages gathered for a protest meeting against the alleged hate crime in which two Muslim men from Ghatmeeka were killed.

Last night, The Wire first reported on the alleged murder of Nasir and Junaid in Haryana, close to the Rajasthan-Haryana border. The gory details of the crime, and the alleged impunity of the accused self-proclaimed ‘cow protectors’, have left spectators stunned.

Ghatmeeka is largely inhabited by small farmers and lorry drivers, and the village has not seen such a tense environment since the lynching of Umar Khan in 2017. Speaking to The Wire, Umar’s son, Maqsood said that since his father was hacked to death, people cannot get themselves to buy cows from adjacent villages even for the purpose of milking, “fearing what happened to my father can happen to them too”. As he spoke, his elderly grandmother sat beside him, shivering, shaking, crying and mumbling something to herself while holding a photo of her son Umar.

Maqsood believes that the present Union BJP government has created an atmosphere of impunity for goons and criminals who continue to remain emboldened “even after so many cases like Pehlu, Rakhbar, Junaid and my father Umar”.

Many angry locals questioned why the police have not included sections for murder amongst the charges cited in the FIR and why they are trying to present it as a case of only abduction. (The FIR has been filed under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 365 (abduction), 367 (kidnapping or abducting in order to subject a person to grievous hurt, slavery) and 368 (wrongful confinement)). However, some locals also praised the police action and said that they feel that the Rajasthan police will arrest the accused soon.

Mursaleen, a young student from the village, is visibly shocked at the news of two men from his neighbourhood being set ablaze while alive. He told The Wire that he has been following the videos posted by Monu Manesar in which he can be seen posing with rifles and arms while boasting to have the Haryana Police’s support. “Today it is Junaid, tomorrow I think they will kill and bury me too. And I don’t think we’ll ever get justice,” he said.

“I watched him grow up before my very eyes, and I always knew him to be a hardworking and kind-hearted young man,” Junaid’s neighbour, Sahuni, told The Wire. “He was well-respected in our village, and everyone knew him for his gentle nature.”

“To see his skull now is something I never could have imagined,” she said. “It’s like losing a son. Junaid was the breadwinner for so many people…his family’s future is uncertain without him.”

Tahir Hussain, Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat Dhimri, the village adjacent to Ghatmeeka, said, “We demand to know from the state government how they are going to stop this act of terrorism which has been prevalent in the area. The people responsible for this horrific incident should be arrested, charged with relevant sections and hanged.”

A few weeks ago, a Muslim man named Waris had died in the area. While the police said it was in a road accident, Waris’s family has accused Bajrang Dal leader Monu Manesar – also allegedly involved in the killing of Junaid and Nasir – and others of committing murder. “There are a few people who want to vitiate the social fabric of the country, there are some who wish to destroy societal peace among communities,” the sarpanch said. “We demand that the administration take note of these happenings and do the needful. We are happy with the administration, as of now. The IG and SP are here with us. We only request them to take the strictest action possible, no relief should be provided so that these incidents are not repeated.”

The Haryana police’s role, though, is questionable, according to Hussain. “How can someone from Haryana come to Rajasthan, commit such a horrific crime, and leave? Was there no police booth, no check post to stop them? They should think about this. How can anyone go anywhere, and lynch and burn people?”

It is essential, he continued, that the administration take action against the accused – otherwise cases like this will only continue. “The atmosphere is being vitiated, people are living in fear. How will they go out? How will they do business? This is not how the country will run.”

All cattle-related industries and those making a living from them, Hussain said, have been deeply affected by rising crimes by ‘cow vigilantes’. “Samajhdar aadmi toh gay rakhna hi chhor diya hai. Bhains Rs 2 lakh ki aati hai aur gay Rs 30,000-40,000 me toh gareeb admi sochta hai ki bachcho ke liye gay ka doodh ka intezam ho jaega. (All intelligent people have stopped keeping cows at home. A bull costs Rs 2 lakh but you can buy a cow for Rs 30,000-40,000, so a poor man thinks that at least there will be milk for his children.) But even he is looked upon with suspicion.”

Shyam Singh, the Bharatpur superintendent of police, told The Wire on the telephone: “One of the accused has been detained, we are looking for the rest. The post-mortem is complete and we are conducting DNA tests too.” When asked about delays in arrests, as alleged by families of the two victims, the police refused to comment.

Wasim Akram, a social activist who works in the area, told The Wire, “Does an organisation have the right to take the law into their own hands? Police is there, the administration is there. But the way Monu and his team are committing these crimes is condemnable,” he said, alleging that this was not the first time the group was behaving in this way.

Like others in the village, Akram is troubled that people are taking the law into their own hands – and are being allowed to do so. “If you see Monu’s [social media] profile, the way he chases vehicles and opens fire at them, is this his job? What is the police doing, then? And then Monu is seen with the Nuh SP and in meetings with other officials. Is this how they want to serve cows? How can you use weapons in the name of gau raksha?”

Speaking to India Today NE, Mawrie revealed he himself eats beef and that the party has no issues with it.

"In BJP, there is no problem. The BJP does not think of any caste, creed, or religion. We can have anything we want. It is our food habit. Why should a political party have a problem with it?", Mawrie was quoted by India Today NE as saying.

Bhiwani Killings: Hindutva Outfits Lend Support to Accused, 'Warn' Police Against Arrests

As reports emerged that Rajasthan Police would arrest Monu Manesar and other accused in the case, a Hindu Mahapanchayat was convened in Manesar to protest against the "targeting of innocent Gau Rakshaks".

New Delhi: A ‘Hindu Mahapanchayat’ was called by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) in support of Monu Manesar – a cow vigilante, who calls himself a Gau Rakshak, and is accused in the killing of Rajasthan residents Junaid and Nasir recently – in the Manesar town of Haryana on Tuesday, February 21. Speakers at the event dared Rajasthan Police to arrest Manesar and others accused in the case.

Amidst reports that Rajasthan Police may proceed to Haryana to arrest the accused, those present at the Mahapanchayat warned the Rajasthan government and Police of “dire consequences” if they were to arrest the accused.

According to Devendra Singh, one of the Mahapanchayat organisers, “Rajasthan’s Congress government wants to frame Monu Manesar, who is innocent. They don’t want to arrest cow smugglers, so they want to imprison Monu and other innocents. We will not allow this to happen. We want the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) to investigate this matter, and we do not trust the Rajasthan government.”

He further added, “We will continue to call for Panchayats and rallies until the Centre intervenes because Monu and others are only gau rakshaks (cow protectors).”

“If Rajasthan police set feet in Manesar to arrest Monu, they will not return on the same feet. If Monu is arrested, we will block the highway. Giraftarian denge, jail choti pad jayegi (we will get arrested en masse and fill their jails),” said Neelam, a member of Gau Raksha Dal from Pataudi, according to Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed raised the issue on the floor of the Haryana Assembly and sought immediate action against Manesar and others accused in the case.

“Minorities in Haryana feel distressed after what happened recently with two Muslim men in Bhiwani. This is not the first time that Muslim men have been attacked in Haryana. Currently, Haryana ranks last in citizen protection out of all the states. I feel that the state government is supporting these cow vigilantes,” Aftab Ahmed said in the Vidhan Sabha.

Hindustan Times reported that a first information report (FIR) was registered against 30-40 Rajasthan cops by Haryana Police. The FIR registered in Nuh alleged that “30-40 people wearing Rajasthan Police uniform and civil attire stormed into the home of complainant Dulari and assaulted the women in the house”.

Progress in the case

A video has surfaced of Gopalgarh Station House Officer Ram Naresh Meena sharing gruesome details of the killing and burning of Nasir and Junaid, in Haryana’s Bhiwani by a group of cow vigilantes. In the video, he revealed the role of cow vigilantes on camera.

Junaid and Nasir, two residents of Rajasthan’s Ghatmeeka village, left home on February 14 morning in a Bolero car to visit a relative. They never returned. The families alleged that members of the Bajrang Dal had killed Junaid and Nasir, and approached the police. Both of them were found burnt alive.

The burnt vehicle in which the charred bodies of Junaid and Nasir were found: By Special Arrangement

Some villagers from Ghatmeeka village told The Wire that they fear their turn will come soon, and the government would try to silence them by offering compensation. “Is money everything?” they ask.

A first information report (FIR) was filed in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, based on a complaint filed by Junaid’s cousin Ismail.

Rajasthan SHO Ram Naresh Meena can be seen in the viral video recounting the same story that the villagers told The Wire. “Monu lives near the incident site,” he added. One of the accused, Rinku Saini, also gave a similar statement to the police. The Rajasthan Police are currently searching for other suspects in Haryana.

Killings condemned

Brinda Karat and Amra Ram of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) released a statement denouncing the savage murders of Junaid and Nasir, who were allegedly abducted, assaulted, and burned alive by members of the Bajrang Dal Gau Rakshak gang.

The CPI(M) team visited the families of the victims and demanded that the perpetrators be apprehended as well as the families be provided with compensation and employment support.

The statement noted allegations of “cow smuggling” made against Junaid and Nasir were “inaccurate” and stems from a wrong portrayal of Muslim dairy producers and livestock traders. The Rajasthani government was urged by the CPI(M) to act decisively and look into the Rajasthan police’s involvement in the issue.

Asaduddin Owaisi of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) also visited the village of Ghatmeeka. Speaking to the media, he said, “This is not about Junaid and Nasir; we all must condemn what happened to these two innocent men.” He also sought to know why the Prime Minister is “silent” on the issue, and also demanded an answer from chief minister Ashok Gehlot as to when would his government arrest the accused.

Dr. Meraj Hussain, a member of the Congress party, resigned on Tuesday, February 21, from the party after visiting Ghatmeeka. Speaking to The Wire, he stated, “It’s been five days, and my party is silent on this matter. I didn’t see any tweets from Rahul and Priyanka. I saw how the government arrested Kanhaiya Lal’s murderer within hours in Udaipur, yet Pehlu Khan’s murderers are still roaming free in Rajasthan.” He announced that he would send his resignation to Congress president Malikarjun Kharge.

Gehlot tweeted that he met with the families of Junaid and Nasir a few days back and that Rajasthan Police is making all-out efforts to provide justice to the victims of this heinous crime, and that justice will be ensured.

Taking on the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) ahead of the Assembly elections in Karnataka, Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah said on Saturday that both were “two faces of the same coin”, and choosing Janata Dal (S) meant voting for the Congress.

He asked the people in Puttur: “Do you want the Congress and the Janata Dal (Sr) who valorise Tipu Sultan or the BJP which valorises Rani Abbakka?”

Rani Abbakka was the queen of the then Ullal region, near Mangaluru, and fought against foreign invaders, including the Portugese in the 16th century. The 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan, who fought the British, has been the target of BJP’s consistent attack. The ruler’s birth anniversary was officially celebrated during the Congress regime, which was reversed by the BJP when it came to power.

Voting for ‘Nav Karnataka’

Addressing a gathering at Puttur at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO), a multi-State cooperative society of Karnataka and Kerala, Mr. Shah said that voting the BJP meant “voting for Nav Karnataka.”

He claimed that only the BJP could give a secure and stable government in Karnataka.

“Will you strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai by electing the BJP with full majority?” he asked the crowd. Continuing with rhetorical questions, Mr. Shah further asked: “Do you need a party of nationalists, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or the corrupt Congress which wants to use Karnataka as the ATM for Gandhi parivar? Whose government do you want?”

Mr. Shah said that when the Congress was in power in Karnataka it had released many activists of the then Popular Front of India (PFI). But the Narendra Modi-led government banned the PFI. The Congress, which was into appeasement and strengthened an anti-national organisation (referring to the PFI), would never do good for Karnataka, he said.

Areca bonding

Lauding CAMPCO for its achievements, he said that the cooperative celebrating the golden jubilee indicated that it had grown on the right path. He said that arecanut trade bridged the people of Gujarat with the people of Dakshina Kannada who cultivated it and the Gujarat people who consumed it.

Earlier, he digitally laid the foundation stone for building an agriculture mall of the CAMPCO in Puttur. He released the coconut oil product named ‘Calpa’ of the CAMPCO and inaugurated the new warehouse of the cooperative constructed at Bhadravat,i near Shivamogga, on the occasion.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa spoke. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP for Dakshina Kannada and State BJP president, was present.

Addressing an event to mark the golden jubilee of a cooperative in Puttur, Dakshin Kannada, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Saturday said that while the Congress and JD(S), “who believed in 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan”, cannot do any good for Karnataka, the BJP took its inspiration from “16th-century Tuluva queen of Ullal Rani Abbakka Chowta”, to give the state a prosperous rule.

“Should people vote for the JD(S) and Congress who believe in Tipu, or the BJP which has faith in Rani Abbakka?” he asked.

In September 2022, addressing a rally in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Abakka along with Rani Chennabhaira Devi as one of the two local women warriors who had contributed to the freedom struggle. “They helped rescue the soil of the country from slavery,” the PM said.

So who was Rani Abakka?

An article on her on the website of the IGNCA (Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts), calls the queen, locally known as Abbakka Mahadevi, “one of the earliest freedom fighters of India who resisted the Portuguese”.

Belonging to the Chowta dynasty, which ruled Tulu Nadu, comprising several strategic regions of coastal Karnataka, Abakka was the queen of a little-known and small princely state, Ullal (located just a few kilometres from Mangaluru).

The article describes her as “a magnetic woman of indomitable courage and patriotism”. “While Rani Jhansi has become a symbol of courage, Abbakka, nearly 300 years her predecessor, has been largely forgotten by history. Her furious wars with Portuguese are not well recorded. But whatever is available speaks of a luminous personality of awesome valour and bravery,” the article reads.

According to the writer, Kailash Kr Mishra, who has worked on a documentary project on Abbakka, archival records, accounts of Portuguese travellers and historical analysis say there were three Abbakkas: “mother and two daughters, who fought against the Portuguese Army between 1530 and 1599”.

While the second daughter was believed to have been the most courageous, all three Abbakkas are in folklore treated as one great Queen. The Ullal fort still survives, on the shores of the Arabian Sea, and has a Shiva Temple built by the Queen.

As per the IGNCA article, trained in military science and warfare, mainly archery and sword-fighting, Abakka had a short-lived marriage with the neighbouring local king of Bangher. When she broke off the marriage, her husband is said to have joined the Portuguese to fight her. The Chowta dynasty followed the system of matrilineal inheritance of the Digambara Jains, which means the crown had passed to Abakka.

Having conquered Goa, the Portuguese made several attempts to capture the strategically located Ullal, but were repulsed by Abbakka, the story of her fightback passing down into folk songs and folk theatre yakshagana. As per one such folklore, Abbakka was “the last known person to have the Agnivana (fire-arrow)”.

There was another side to Abbakka that perhaps doesn’t fit as easily with the Hindutva narrative seeking to pit her against “Muslim” ruler Tipu Sultan. A Jain by faith, her administration had a strong representation of Hindus and Muslims, while her army was known to include people from all sects and castes, as per the IGNCA article.

“India and not Arabia is the birth place of Islam,” stated Maulana Mahmood Madani, stirring a fresh debate at the 34 th general session of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind in New Delhi on Saturday. “India is the birthplace of Islam. The first prophet descended here. It is the homeland of Muslims. To consider Islam as a foreign religion is historically incorrect and completely baseless,” the Jamiat president asserted, adding, “India is the best country for Muslims. It is like one’s house is the best place, no matter however dilapidated it might be.”

Making a fervent pitch for equal treatment of all citizens, Mr. Madani said, “India belongs to all of us equally. India is our country. It belongs as much to [PM] Narendra Modi and [RSS chief] Mohan Bhagwat as Mahmood [Madani]. Neither is Mahmood an inch ahead of them, nor are they an inch ahead of Mahmood.”

He stressed that neither he nor the Jamiat believe in nursing any grudges or hatred towards any community. “It is important to put an end to hate speech and live like two brothers. I warmly invite Mohan Bhagwat ji and his followers to eschew mutual hatred and embrace each other to make our dear motherland the most developed country in the world,” he said.

The Jamiat also reiterated its support for continued dialogue between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Muslim bodies, stating, “In the current atmosphere of hatred, we welcome and support all those who are trying to initiate a dialogue and understand each other’s ideas in order to foster stronger mutual relations. Mutual negotiation is the solution to all problems. We have no grudge against the promotion of Santan Dharma, nor should you have any grudge against the promotion of Islam.”

The session staunchly opposed attempts to bring in a Uniform Civil Code. While a member wondered, if it was another name for the Hindu Code, the Jamiat’s Secretary Niaz Faruqi, in an official statement said, “The Jamiat stands opposed to the government’s proposal to implement a Uniform Civil Code in India. It will have a direct impact on the country’s unity and diversity, and is contrary to the spirit of democracy and the constitutional guarantees given under Articles 25 to 29 of the Constitution of India. The Jamiat believes that the government’s efforts are motivated by vote-bank politics rather than the protection of fundamental rights. The implementation of the Uniform Civil Code will result in instability and mutual distrust.”

The general session also took the opportunity to remind the country of Jamiat’s important role in the freedom struggle, right from the time of Non-Cooperation Movement to Quit India Revolution. “The Jamiat has always stood for the idea of India, for composite nationalism, for Hindu-Muslim unity. Before Independence, the Jamiat stood opposed to the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims in the form of Pakistan. Today, we oppose the aggressive sectarianism being perpetuated in the name of Hindutva. We have no religious or ethnic enmity with the RSS or the BJP, but our differences are based on our ideology.”

The three-day national meeting of Jamiat delegates concludes with a plenary session this Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 10, 2023 inaugurated Dawoodi Bohra community’s Arabic Academy at Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah (The Saifee Academy) in Mumbai.

After the inauguration, Mr. Modi was walking around the campus with His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and present leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra community, one of the influential communities in the country’s financial capital.

“I’m not here as Prime Minister, but as part of the family. Visiting you is like visiting my family. Please don’t refer to me as PM or CM. I’m your family member,” he said while addressing the community members.

“Our association goes a long way. Four generations of Syedna sahab’s family have blessed me, and he (His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin) has fulfilled a 150-year-old dream by setting up this institute in Mumbai (outside Gujarat),” the Prime Minister said.

Hailing the contribution of the community to social welfare initiatives, Mr. Modi said that from fighting malnutrition to the cause of water in Gujarat their contribution is unforgettable.

“When I was Chief Minister of Gujarat, I worked closely with the community in fighting malnutrition and water crisis,” he said. He cited this as an example of the complementarity of society and government for causes ranging from tackling malnutrition and water scarcity.

The Prime Minister said every community, group or organisation is recognised by its ability to keep its relevance intact with changing times. “On the parameters of adapting to changing times and development, Dawoodi Bohra Community has proved itself. Institutions like Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah are a living example of this”, he said.

He also recollected the instance of Dr Syedna teaching at the age of 99 and talked about his close relations with the community in Gujarat.

“When I go somewhere not only in the country but also abroad, my Bohra brothers and sisters definitely come to meet me”, Mr. Modi said while highlighting the love and concern of the community for India.

He said the country is taking the resolutions of Amrit Kaal forward with reforms like the new National Education Policy, and highlighted the new opportunities being made available for modern education of women and girls.

He also recalled the times when India used to be a centre for education with institutes like Nalanda and Takshila which drew the attention of students from around the world.

“In the last eight years, a record number of universities have come up and medical colleges are being established in every district. As many as 145 medical colleges were established between 2004 and 2014 (During UPA government), whereas more than 260 medical colleges came into existence during the same period,” he said, adding that in the last eight years, one university and two colleges were opened every week.

Mr. Modi also underlined the importance of regional languages in the education system and said engineering and medical education can now be taken up in regional languages.

“Development and heritage are equally important for a country like India”, he said.

Further, the Prime Minister stated that the people of the Bohra community in foreign lands can act as brand ambassadors of India. “The community will continue to play an important role in reaching the goal of a developed India,” he said.

Earlier, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, spoke of the decades-old friendship and bond between Mr. Modi and his respected father Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. “India has been our home for centuries, and we are at peace here,” he said.
