By India Today Web Desk: Meghalaya BJP state president Ernest Mawrie has claimed there are no restrictions on consuming beef in the saffron party. The BJP does not think of any caste, creed, or religion, he further said.
Speaking to India Today NE, Mawrie revealed he himself eats beef and that the party has no issues with it.
"In BJP, there is no problem. The BJP does not think of any caste, creed, or religion. We can have anything we want. It is our food habit. Why should a political party have a problem with it?", Mawrie was quoted by India Today NE as saying.

He further added that everyone in Meghalaya eats beef, and there are no restrictions in the state.
"It is our habit and culture," he said.
The Meghalaya BJP state president also spoke about the BJP's stance on cow slaughter.

Ahead of the assembly elections in the state, Mawrie exuded confidence in the saffron party's win and said the party will field candidates for all 60 seats in the state.
The party leaders are expecting a good show, he said, adding, there will be a triangular contest in Meghalaya between NPP and UDP.

"We will win at least 34 seats in the upcoming elections, and this is our projection. It is now up to the people whether they vote for us or not. If people want peace and development in the state, they should definitely give the BJP a chance to rule the state," Mawrie was quoted as saying.
The Meghalaya Assembly Elections are scheduled to take place on February 27, 2023, to elect all 60 members of the legislative assembly, with results expected to be declared on March 2.

The assembly elections in Meghalaya are scheduled to be held on February 27, 2023, to elect all 60 members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The votes will be counted on March 2, 2023.
The tenure of the 10th Meghalaya Assembly is scheduled to end on March 15, 2023.
The previous assembly elections were held in February 2018, following which, a coalition led by the National People's Party formed the state government, with Conrad Sangma becoming Chief Minister.
