'There is no doubt that Ziaur Rahman had a hand in creating the Rohingya crisis'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has blamed military dictator and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman for creating the Rohingya crisis.

“There is no doubt that Ziaur Rahman had a hand in creating the Rohingya crisis,” she said in reply to a supplementary question from Bangladesh Tariqat Federation lawmaker Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari during her question-answer session in the House yesterday, reports BSS.

“If you notice one thing, after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, politics of murder, coups and conspiracies had started,” she added.

The premier said the unrest in Chittagong Hill Tracts had begun in 1976-1977, while the Rohingya problem had commenced in 1978-1979, adding it is a reality.

“However, we always believe in the peaceful solution for the protracted Rohingya crisis and I have already taken initiatives in this regard,” she said.

The prime minister reiterated her firm stance on not to allow anybody to use Bangladesh’s land for terrorist activities in any country.

“There will be no place for terrorists on our soil … we have ensured it. We have expelled those from the country whom the past governments patronized,” she said.
