Nandyal:  In a bid to woo the numerically strong Muslim Minorities in Nandyal Assembly segment, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu promised to anoint a Muslim as chairman of AP Legislative Council. Naidu was interacting with the representatives of Muslim minorities in a private function hall here on his second day of his election campaign on Sunday.

Faced with the criticism of failing to provide Muslim representation in his council of ministers and even in the State Assembly, Naidu expressed his commitment to ensure a fair play for the welfare of minority groups. He claimed that the government has allotted a lion’s share of allocations in the state budget for 2017-18 for over-all development of Muslims. He said he will not brook any attempt from any quarter to create religious divide in the State.

Meanwhile, the promise of Legislative Council chairman for Muslims came from Naidu in the wake of N.Md. Farooq, former deputy speaker of the Assembly in the undivided state and resident of Nandyal, receiving an assurance to be tipped for the post. Close on the heels, he was nominated to the council along with P. Ramasubba Reddy from Kadapa district from the governor’s quota. It may be recalled that the term of A. Chakrapani, the incumbent chairman of the Legislative Council, has expired in May last.
