Union Minister Amit Shah on Saturday attacked the Congress at the Hubli rally in Karnataka over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. Amit Shah also challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to prove that the citizenship law would take away citizenship from Indian Muslims.
Terming those against the CAA as "anti-Dalits", Amit Shah said, "Seventy per cent of these refugees are Dalits. I want to ask the protestors that are against CAA, what will you benefit from protesting against these Dalits? Anti-CAA is anti-Dalit as well."
The Union minister said, "In Pakistan [both East and West], there were 30 per cent Hindus. Today, it has gone down to three per cent in Pakistan and seven per cent in Bangladesh. I want to ask the protestors where did these minorities go? Can any of them answer?"
"In 1950, Jawaharlal Nehru signed a pact with Liaquat Ali Khan that was aimed to protect the minorities of both countries and ensure their mainstreaming. Today, after 70 years, India maintained its promise. Our Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and other minorities were treated with equal rights," Amit Shah said.
Mounting a strong defence of the Citizenship Amendment Act, the home minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi solved the country's problems that stood for 70 years.
"Even the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, had said that the Hindus and Sikhs living in East and West Pakistan have all rights to come back to India. India's first prime minister, first home minister and first President Rajendra Prasad had promised that we would give these minorities citizenship. Maulana Azad had also promised citizenship to these minorities, and so had Acharya Kripalini," Amit Shah said.

He said, "PM Modi has brought this law to save them and give them their basic human rights."
Intensifying his attack on Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah said, "Rahul Gandhi, all these leaders are from Congress. You did not complete these promises from your forefathers. It is being completed by PM Modi today. Why is this troubling the Opposition? They only have to do their vote-bank politics."
