Shah Rukh Khan shouldn’t be targeted because he is Muslim, says Shiv Sena after BJP leader compares him with Hafiz Saeed

Even as he came under attack from sections in BJP, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan today received support from ruling ally Shiv Sena which said the superstar should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim and that the minority community in India is "tolerant".

BJP MP Yogi Adityanath compared Shah Rukh to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai carnage, over his “extreme intolerance” comment and also suggested that he go to Pakistan.
Even as he came under attack from sections in BJP, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan today received support from ruling ally Shiv Sena which said the superstar should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim and that the minority community in India is “tolerant”.
“This country is tolerant and the Muslims are tolerant as well. Shah Rukh Khan should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim,” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said.
BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had yesterday triggered a controversy when he tweeted that Shah Rukh’s “soul” is in Pakistan though he lives in India. His remarks came a day after the 50-year-old actor said there is “extreme intolerance” in the country.
Earlier today controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath compared Shah Rukh to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai carnage, over his “extreme intolerance” comment and also suggested that he go to Pakistan.
Slamming Vijayvargiya, Raut asked the BJP general secretary not to bring Pakistan into this debate on tolerance, saying that it is India’s internal matter.
He said Shah Rukh is a superstar only because India is tolerant.
“Shah Rukh Khan is a superstar only because the country is tolerant and has never thought in the name of religion,” the Sena leader said.
However, Raut said Shah Rukh spoke quite late on the issue.
“First of all Shah Rukh Khan should not have gotten into this debate on tolerance and secondly, out of the people who have returned their awards, the number of Muslims is almost negligible. Also, Shah Rukh spoke on the issue very late,” he said.
Meanwhile, under fire for his remark against Shah Rukh, Vijayvargiya today withdrew his controversial tweets but asserted that had there been intolerance in India, Shah Rukh would not have been the most popular actor after Amitabh Bachchan.

A day after actor Shah Rukh Khan said “religious intolerance and not being secular… is the worst kind of crime that you can do as a patriot”, he came under attack from BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya who called him “anti-national” and said it appears that Khan “lives in Hindustan but his soul is in Pakistan”.

Vijayvargiya questioned Khan’s patriotism saying he had become a “Bharat virodhi” (anti-India) and seemed to have joined “international forces” out to “defame India and dampen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda”.

“Aisa lagta hai, woh rahte hain Hindustan mein, lekin unka aatma Pakistan mein hai,” Vijayvargiya told The Indian Express on phone from Araria in Bihar where he had been campaigning.

However, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar condemned Vijayvargia comments on SRK saying that the BJP doesn’t endorse the views of the party general secretary.

Vijayvargia is not a spokesman for BJP, Javadekar said.

Hailed by the party as the architect of its stunning victory in Haryana and now in-charge of its West Bengal unit, Vijayvargiya said: “There are some international forces conspiring against India. They want India to be defamed. Artistes like Shah Rukh should have stayed away from this.”

“The writers, scientists and artistes who have been protesting against the Modi government have become victims of this international conspiracy. Wittingly or unwittingly, Shah Rukh also became a part of it. They have become Bharat virodhi,” he said.

Describing Khan as a “good artist” — he said he had watched Khan’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Baazigar — Vijayvargiya said he should have thought of “desh ki pratishtha” (respect for the country) instead of joining “political forces” that have been trying to create hurdles for the BJP-led government’s development works.

Earlier in the day, Vijayvargiya tweeted: “He (Khan) stays in India, but his heart probably lies in Pakistan. His films earn crores here but he sees only intolerance here.”

“What can it be called if not anti-national? India is on the verge of becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council. All anti-India forces, including Pakistan, are conspiring against this… Creating an atmosphere of intolerance in the country is part of this conspiracy. Shah Rukh’s cry over intolerance is joining voices with Pakistan and anti-Indian forces.”

“Where was Shah Rukh Khan when hundreds of people were killed in 1993 in Mumbai? Where was Shah Rukh when Mumbai faced the 26/11 attack?… Today the entire world is honouring India and its leadership. In such circumstances, to talk about intolerance would weaken India before the world,” he tweeted.

“Shah Rukh Khan is an agent of neighbouring country Pakistan as he reflects their (Pakistan’s) ideology. Such a man should go to Pakistan,” Prachi said.

Controversial Hindutva leader Sadhvi Prachi today termed Shah Rukh Khan as a “Pakistani agent”, who should be sent to that country, a day after the Bollywood superstar added his voice to the protest against “extreme intolerance” in the country.

“Shah Rukh Khan is an agent of neighbouring country Pakistan as he reflects their (Pakistan’s) ideology. Such a man should go to Pakistan,” she said while talking to reporters in the court complex.

Condemning Prachi’s remark, filmmaker Aparna Sen called for legal action against the leader. “Can’t believe Sadhvi’s reaction to SRK on tv! They’re ones who want to break the country apart! There should be legal action against her!,” tweeted the National Award winner.

Not new to controversies, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader had earlier targeted actors Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan in March this year for “spreading a culture of violence” and advised youngsters not to idolise the Bollywood triumvirate.

Prachi, an accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, also attended a BJP protest against alleged irregularities in counting of votes for district panchayat polls even as a Muzaffarnagar court issued a fresh bailable warrant against her for not appearing before it.

Earlier, a bailable warrant was issued on October 23 against several accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case including Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan, BJP MLA Suresh Rana and Sadhvi Prachi.

Two days after actor Shah Rukh Khan said there was “growing intolerance” in the country, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath Wednesday compared him to Pakistani terrorist and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, and said he is “welcome” to go to Pakistan. His party colleague, MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey, meanwhile said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his RJD ally Lalu Prasad “should go to Pakistan after Bihar assembly polls outcome on November 8”.

Shah Rukh was also attacked by BJP MP and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari, who sought to draw a link between his comments and the Bihar polls. Union Minister Najma Heptulla said the actor should guide people on tolerance instead of complaining in this regard. “Had he not said anything of that sort, people from my party would not have made such comments. People from my party have not commented on their own, but have only reacted to his remark,” she said.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, who had Tuesday said the actor lives in India but his “soul (aatma)” is in Pakistan, retracted his statement but added that had there been intolerance in India, Shah Rukh would not have been the most popular actor after Amitabh Bachchan. He also refused to apologise for his remarks.

BJP ally Shiv Sena, too, weighed in, with MP Sanjay Raut saying that “Shah Rukh Khan should not be targeted only because he is a Muslim”. “This country is tolerant and the Muslims are tolerant as well. Shah Rukh Khan is a superstar only because the country is tolerant and has never thought in the name of religion,” Raut said.

On Wednesday, Adityanath said that if the “majority community” were to boycott his films, Shah Rukh would have to wander the streets like a “common Muslim”. “I am saying these people are speaking the language of terror. I think there is no difference in the language of Shah Rukh Khan and Hafiz Saeed,” he said. “We welcome that people go there (Pakistan), at least people who defame India will understand their own originality,” he added.

Tiwari, who returned to the Capital after campaigning in Bihar, said Khan’s statement was a “political comment”. “He has issued a statement when the Bihar elections are going on. He has always been close to the Congress,” he said, adding that the actor should join politics if he wants to make such statements.

Officially, the BJP distanced itself from the remarks made by its leaders. “The views of Yogi Adityanath do not reflect the thinking of the BJP and the NDA government,” spokesperson Nalin Kohli said.

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said what Vijayvargiya had said is “not the view of the BJP”. Minister Prakash Javadekar, too, termed it “unacceptable” and said only those authorised to speak should do so.

Several Congress leaders slammed the BJP, with Digvijaya Singh saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally apologise to Shah Rukh.

పారిస్‌, నవంబరు 4: ధనిక దేశాల్లో సగటు ఆయుఃప్రమాణం పదేళ్లు పెరిగిందని ఆర్గనైజేన్‌ ఫర్‌ ఎకనామిక్‌ కో ఆపరేషన్‌ అండ్‌ డెవలప్‌మెంట్‌(ఓఈసీడీ) 2013 నివేదిక స్పష్టం చేసింది. నాలుగు దశాబ్దాల క్రితంతో పోలిస్తే పెరిగిన వై ద్య, ఆరోగ్య సదుపాయాలు ఈ మార్పులకు కారణమయ్యాయని వెల్లడించింది. అయితే, గతంలో ఓఈసీడీ నివేదిక సగటు వయస్సు కన్నా అమెరికన్ల సగటు జీవితకాలం ఒక ఏడాది ఎక్కువగానే ఉండేది. అలాంటిది ఈసారి అమెరికన్ల సగటు ఆయుఃప్రమాణం అనూహ్యంగా పడిపోయింది. ఓఈసీడీ తాజా జాబితాలో అమెరికా అట్టడుగు స్థానంలో నిలిచింది. ఈమేరకు 34 దేశాల్లో జరిపిన పరిశీలనలో అమెరికా 78.8 సంవత్సరాల సగటుతో 27వ స్థానం దక్కించుకుంది. ఓఈసీడీ సగటు కన్నా ఇది చాలా తక్కువ. కాగా, వైద్యం, ఆరోగ్య పరిరక్షణకు సంబంధించి తలసరి వ్య యంలో అమెరికా మిగతా దేశాలను వెనక్కినెట్టి ముందంజలో ఉంది. వైద్యం కోసం అమెరికన్లు మి గతావారితో పోలిస్తే రెండున్నర రెట్లు ఎక్కు వగా ఖర్చుచేస్తున్నారని నివేదిక వెల్లడించింది.

న్యూఢిల్లీ, నవంబరు 4: బాలీవుడ్‌ నటుడు షారుక్‌ ఖాన్‌పై బీజేపీ శిబిరం నుంచి దాడుల పరంపర తీవ్రతరమైంది. ‘‘షారుక్‌ జాతి వ్యతిరేకి’’ అంటూ ఆ పార్టీ సీనియర్‌ నేత విజయ్‌వర్గియా చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలతో ఇరుకునపడి.. ఆయనపై కమలం నాయకత్వం కన్నెర్ర చేసిన కొన్ని గంటల్లోనే ఏకంగా బీజేపీ ఎంపీ తెరపైకి వచ్చి.. షారుక్‌పై పరుష వ్యాఖ్యలు చేశారు. ఈ అగ్రనటుడిని ఉగ్రవాది హఫీజ్‌ సయీద్‌తో పోల్చి.. ఎంపీ ఆదిత్యనాథ్‌ కలకలం సృష్టించారు. దేశంలో అసహన వాతావరణం తీవ్రతరమైందంటూ షారుక్‌ ఇటీవల ఓ టీవీ ఇంటర్వ్యూలో చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యల నేపథ్యంలో... కమలం నేతలు ఒక్కొక్కరుగా విరుచుకుపడుతున్నారు. ‘‘షారుక్‌ సినిమాలను జనం బహిష్కరిస్తే ఆయనెక్కడ ఉండేవాడు? ఈ దేశంలోని సగటు ముస్లింలాగే, ఆయనా రోడ్లు పట్టుకొని తిరగాల్సి వస్తుంది. తట్టాబుట్టా సర్దుకొని పాక్‌కు వెళ్లిపోవాల్సి ఉంటుంది. వీళ్లంతా ఉగ్రవాదుల భాషలో మాట్లాడుతున్నారు. షారుక్‌కూ, ముంబై దాడి కుట్ర సూత్రధారి హఫీజ్‌ సయీద్‌కూ పెద్ద తేడా లేదు’’ అని ఆదిత్యానాథ్‌ దురుసు వ్యాఖ్యలు చేశారు. అంతేకాదు, అవార్డులు వెనక్కి ఇచ్చి నిరసనలు తెలుపుతున్న రచయితలనూ ఉగ్రవాదులతో పోల్చి తెగనాడారు. అటువంటి వారితో షారుక్‌ జత కట్టడం అత్యంత విచారకరమన్నారు. ‘‘ఇది నా దేశం. నా తల్లిదండ్రులు ఈ దేశ స్వాతంత్య్రం కోసం పోరాడారు. నన్ను పాక్‌కు వెళ్లమనే హక్కు ఎవడికీ లేదు’’ అన్న షారుక్‌ వ్యాఖ్యలపై స్పందిస్తూ.. దేశాన్ని అవమానించే షారుక్‌ వంటివారు తమ మూలాలను గుర్తెరగాలని, వారంతా పాక్‌కు వెళ్లిపోతే సంతోషిస్తామన్నారు. కాగా, మంగళవారం షారుక్‌ను ఉద్దేశించి తాను చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలను విజయ్‌వర్గీయ వెనక్కి తీసుకొని, క్షమాపణ చెప్పారు. ‘ఈ దేశానికి సహనమే లేనట్టయితే అమితాబ్‌ తరువాత అంతటి స్టార్‌హోదాని షారుక్‌కు కట్టబెట్టేవారా అనేది నా భావం. దాన్ని మీడియా వక్రీకరించింది’ అని వివరణ ఇచ్చారు. అయితే, వర్గీయపై బీజేపీ అగ్రనాయకత్వం ఆగ్రహంతో ఉన్నదని, దానివల్లనే వర్గీయ తన వైఖరిని మార్చుకోవాల్సి వచ్చిందనేది ఆ పార్టీ వర్గాల సమాచారం. వర్గీయ విషయంలోనే కాదు..ఆదిత్యానాథ్‌ వ్యాఖ్యలపైనా బీజేపీ తగినంత దూరం పాటిస్తోంది. షారుక్‌నిగానీ, మరే భారతీయుడిని గానీ ఉగ్రవాదులతో పోల్చడం సరికాదని ఆ పార్టీ ప్రతినిధి నళిన్‌ కొహ్లీ వివరించారు. వ్యక్తులపై విమర్శలు చేయడం బీజేపీ విధానం కానే కాదని కేంద్ర మంత్రి వెంకయ్య నాయుడు అన్నారు. కాగా, షారుక్‌ కేంద్రంగా సాగుతున్న మాటల యుద్ధంపై శివసేన తీవ్ర అసహనం వ్యక్తం చేసింది. ‘ముస్లిం అయిన కారణంగానే షారుక్‌ని లక్ష్యం చేసుకోవడం సరికాదు’ అని తప్పుబట్టింది. వర్గీయ, ఆదిత్యానాథ్‌ల అరెస్టునకు కాంగ్రెస్‌ డిమాండ్‌ చేసింది. ప్రధాని మోదీ ఇంకా మౌనం వహించడం సరికాదని ఏఐసీసీ నేత ఆనంద్‌ శర్మ పేర్కొన్నారు. గుజరాత్‌ నమూనాను దేశవ్యాప్తంగా పునరావృతం చేయాలని మోదీ సర్కారు ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నదని కాంగ్రెస్‌ ప్రతినిధి మనీశ్‌ తివారీ దుయ్యబట్టారు. షారుక్‌ ఇక్కడ ఉండాలా లేక పాక్‌కు వెళ్లాలా అనేది మోదీ స్పష్టత ఇవ్వాలని డిమాండ్‌ చేశారు. షారుక్‌ను చూసి గర్విస్తున్నానని ఢిల్లీ సీఎం కేజ్రీవాల్‌ అన్నారు.

‘భారత్‌లో ఇకపై కాలుపెట్టను’ అని పాక్‌ ప్రసిద్ధ గజల్‌ గాయకుడు గులాం అలీ ప్రకటించారు. తన కచేరీలను రాజకీయం చేయాలని చూడటం ఎంతో బాధించిందన్నారు. రెండు దేశాల మధ్య సంబంధాలు కుదుటపడేవరకూ భారత్‌లో కచేరీలివ్వనని అలీ స్పష్టం చేశారు. దీనిని సెన్సార్‌ బోర్డు సభ్యుడు అశోక్‌ పండిట్‌ స్వాగతించారు. ఇతర పాకిస్థానీ కళాకారులూ ఇదే బాట పట్టాలని సూచించారు.
